The Third Chance Foundation was founded in the summer of 2015 by author, Elizabeth Courtright.
In 2009, Elizabeth and her husband, Brian became foster parents. In 2013, they adopted their foster children. That’s all well and good, but how did the Third Chance Foundation come to be? This is what Elizabeth has to say about it:
“Because our kids came to us when they were older, there won’t be time to accumulate enough in college accounts for them. This made me think there must be others in the same position. I set up Third Chance because I want to fulfill a need. I want to give back. I want to show my gratitude for the countless ways God has blessed me.”
Elizabeth has always been a writer at heart. For twenty plus years, her career in the financial industry left little time for writing. Once she became a stay-at-home mom she began to focus diligently. While the kids are at school, she writes.
She found herself telling friends, “If I ever sell any of my books, I’ll use the money toward my kids’ educations.” The next thing she knew God gave her the idea for Third Chance.
Ironically, by having all the profits from her books going to the Third Chance scholarship fund, her own children won’t benefit. “That’s okay,” Elizabeth says. “We’ll find a way to support our kids. There are others out there who need the money more. Now all I have to do is get busy and sell some books!”
In addition to being a wife, a mom and a writer, Elizabeth is an active volunteer with children’s programs in her community. At church, she helps the worship team by running sound equipment, and she is an avid animal lover. The Courtrights have seven pets—all rescues—running about their already hectic household. Life is grand!
